State Parks to Close Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park
On June 9, 2009, PCLK celebrated the 100th anniversary of The Point Cabrillo Light Station. State Parks announced on May 13, 2011 that, after 103 years of continuous operation, the Point Cabrillo Light Station, now a State Historic Park, is scheduled to be closed no later than July 1, 2012.
The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association (PCLK), managers of the park since 2002, want our park visitors, our volunteers, and the public to know that we will be making every effort to keep the park open. While there are several complex issues that will have to be addressed by PCLK and State Parks to prevent closing the Light Station, PCLK will be working diligently to resolve these issues as we negotiate an agreement to operate the park on a long term basis.
These negotiations have begun, and we anticipate that they will result in a mutually beneficial agreement that will allow the Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park to remain open for at least another 100 years.
May 15, 2012 Announcement:
PCLK Board Treasurer Harold Hauck announced at the Mendocino County Board of Supervisors Meeting that State Parks has informed the Point Cabrillo Lightkeeper's Association that they will be able to operate and manage the Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park on a month to month basis after July 1, 2012. State Park's anticipates that a Request for Proposal for a new concession contract to operate and manage the Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park will be issued by the state in August 2012. PCLK will respond to this RFP and anticipates being selected by the state and awarded a new multi year concession contract prior to year end 2012. Pending the adoption of a new concession contract the park will remain open.
As appropriate, we will post progress information about the park on our web site andthe Point Cabrillo Light Station FaceBook page, http://www.facebook.com/PointCabrilloLight.
