Job DESCRIPTION

A professional position to coordinate development activities: public relations and advertising, fundraising, and volunteer recruitment.  The position requires a highly organized and detail-oriented person who works independently and has excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.  Mastery of non-profit outreach and fundraising techniques is critical to the successful performance of this position.

 The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association (PCLK) is a community-based group of professionals, neighbors, and volunteers working together to ensure that the light station is preserved and enhanced for current and future generations.  Under the direction of its Board of Directors, the PCLK fulfills its mission to manage, protect, restore, interpret and provide public access to the Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park, and to assist California State Parks in maintaining the historic structures and gardens.  PCLK depends on the work of volunteers to carry out much of its work.

 Position Responsibilities :

The Development Coordinator plays a leadership role in the organization through managing fundraising activities, coordinating outreach, and recruiting volunteers.  The DC acts as a liaison for the organization and its board by providing information and services to funders, major donors, other community groups, and the general public.  Tasks include the following:

The position requires an ability to:

  1. 1) plan, implement, and coordinate a variety of projects simultaneously;

  2. 2) work both independently and in group settings, and accept guidance from the board;

  3. 3) work productively with other people;

  4. 4) communicate clearly orally and in writing; and

  5. 5) use word-processing, spreadsheet, and database software (desktop publishing and webpage design aptitude).

The position requires mastery of nonprofit fundraising strategies and outreach techniques, and demonstrated grant writing capability.

 The position involves attendance at, and participation in some evening/weekend meetings and activities.  A valid California driver's license is required.

 Terms:

This is a part-time staff (or contract) position. 

 Reporting Line:

The Development Coordinator reports to the Site Manager on a routine basis, but also takes special direction from other members of the Board of Directors on certain programs such as fundraising and public relations.
