Point Hueneme Lighthouse

Oxnard, California
First lit: December 15, 1874

On December 15, 1874, two almost identical California lighthouses were lit for the first time.

Point Hueneme (or Port Hueneme) Lighthouse looks a lot different in 2020 than it did when it was first lit. The original lighthouse was sold in 1939, and a new one was constructed on the opposite side of the wharf — a more useful position for the new harbor. The original building eventually fell into disrepair and was torn down many years later.
