Point Reyes Lighthouse

Point Reyes Station, California
First lit: December 1, 1870

On December 1, 1870, the Point Reyes Lighthouse was lit for the first time. The 1906 earthquake that devastated the city of San Francisco and was felt up and down the California coast only caused a rumble at Point Reyes, not hurting the Fresnel lens, and only toppling a few chimneys at the keeper’s quarters.

While the original Fresnel Lens at Point Reyes is not in active service, it is still housed inside the tower at the Light Station.
