CLOSED: 2023 Point Cabrillo Maintenance Raffle

Congratulations to V S, Arthur L, and Joseph W, the winners of the 2022 Maintenance Raffle. The 2023 Maintenance Raffle winners will be announced the second week of January…

What a Year!

2023 has been challenging for the Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association, but with the support from partners, friends and the community, Point Cabrillo has not only survived, but thrived. It is time to celebrate with another raffle so we can continue the work!

But first, here’s an update on this past year at Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park…

The Fresnel Lens at Point Cabrillo Lighthouse was paused after the worm gear on the 1937 motor wore down, and the U.S. Coast Guard Aid to Navigation (ATON) team from Humboldt Bay has been working with PCLK to get it back into operation. On the afternoon of September 30th, the motor was re-installed, and Point Cabrillo’s Fresnel lens is back in service as a Federal Aid to Navigation. We are so happy to see that light shine once again!

After the storm on January 5th, 2023 broke down our back doors, PCLK had a lot of work to do. Volunteers spent countless hours cleaning up the gift shop and museum, and we hired a local woodworker to replace the back doors. If you haven’t seen the footage from that fateful morning yet, be sure to visit pointcabrillo.org/jan-5-storm/ to see the waves. We still have some work to do in brightening up the museum exhibits inside, but that is coming soon.

We continue to make progress in the reconstruction of the Historic Barn at Point Cabrillo, thanks to the expert guidance of PCLK Board Member Samantha Greenlee. We have completed studies, plans, and drawings, and we look forward to starting construction very soon!

Last but not least, the Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association engaged a local contractor to paint Point Cabrillo Lighthouse this summer, a project which was completed on August 31st. Our lighthouse, blacksmith and carpentry shop, and oil house were all painted, and are looking brilliant.

Those red roofs are Point Cabrillo’s “daymark,” another navigation tool that mariners used in the early days of ship traffic along these dangerous coastlines.

The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association is able to do work like this at Point Cabrillo Light Station State Historic Park because of your donations and raffle entries, and the work of our incredible volunteer staff.

On behalf of all who love Point Cabrillo Light Station,
We thank you.
